Pain disorders are a collective term for diseases with pain as the main symptom and are divided into acute pain and chronic pain. If acute pain is not fully controlled, it may develop into chronic pain. The World Health Organization clearly states that acute pain is a symptom associated with the underlying disease, while chronic pain is an independent disease. The 2002 international consensus confirmed this classification standard, and the 2018 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases further subdivided it into seven major categories, including chronic primary pain. The pathogenesis is related to neurogenic pain, ectopic firing of peripheral nerves, and central sensitization.
